On Gyeongsang Creature 2

Image
I don't know what Gyeongsang creature is still doing at no 1 on Netflix when this Nobody wants this is there. I watched the former yesterday and my goodness, SMH The chutzpah from season 1 is noticeably missing in this season 2. Maybe because in season 1, they were actually fighting for something - independence. They had something to lose so it was really really easy to root for the characters. How do I describe this season 2 without being too scathing? The side characters are neither interesting nor memorable. The killer villain is annoying (want to wipe that stupid smirk off his face with oraimo cord). The plot is not grappling. The motive for the continued experiment is not intriguing. None of the scenes leave you glued and anticipating the next episode. This season 2 is just bland, bleak and banal. The only good thing is the cameo from the OG lead in episodes 4 and 5. Should not have even watched this. Annoyed the shit outta me

On Nobody wants this

Image
This is great. This was so good. I watched all the episodes in 1 sitting. It's that good. It's this level of romcom Hollywood was doing before and then they fell off. This was what was absent that pushed us to kdramaland exclusively. I went in expecting nothing. I mean I'd seen my friends post it on their status but I didn't even Google the plot or spoilers. I just went in expecting the bare minimum from Hollywood. But colour me surprised  The dialogue is brilliantly done, there are awkward bits but it fits with the characters. It just flows naturally. The chemistry was chemistry-ing. The actors were deep into the role. Like they actually acted as though they wanted to be in the series - not a cash grab venture. This was phenomenal. Amazing. I'm not even hyping it, this is perfecto. It has all the recipes for a real funny movie. Quirky friend. Sister that gives bad advice. Overbearing ex. Unserious brother-in-law. Parents with marital issues. Mother that's not o

On Jailbreak: Love on the run

I watched "Into the fire: The lost daughter" and all I can say is "mothers' instincts are crazy." That's so surreal. It made me start thinking of spirits' communication and all. I also watched this other documentary on Netflix where this woman allowed an inmate to escape from jail. The story was so ludicrous to me. She was a correctional officer and he was in jail for multiple felonies including domestic violence, and attempted violence. He'd be serving for 75 years. See his mouth like I'm not like that.  And even before his previous sentence, he has always been in and out of jail so it's not even a case of Menedenz brothers that their own crime is justified. And the woman, Vicky White fell for him in prison. They were having phone sex between 2020-2022 when they escaped. Like transcripts from the burner phone she used to call showed over 1000 calls between those years. So that means talking multiple times a day for all those years. In fact,

On Older Women and being Childfree

Image
All these essay because a woman said she is childfree. Why does this thing trigger men so much? Like how do you with your family and 4 kids interested in someone that doesn't have that. I have a hunch that they wanted to have schadenfreude that they're enjoying this marriage and kids and women are miserable. But those women are not so it's a jarring reality. "You're going to die alone." Is that a drag? Even people with 6 family members die alone in most cases. Hell, the only time you'd even die with a family member by your side is if you're hospitalized.  It always agitates men that they see women in their 30s, very moisturised, gorgeous, taking care of their body. They're not in some dingy old apartment, with drab interiors and miserable with kids. Nah, they're travelling, having fine dining, dating as they will, excelling in their careers, just living without societal expectations. This always makes me chortle, I won't lie.

On Yum Pistachio Gelato by Genie Kaly

Image
This perfume is ridiculously good for its price. I got it for 10k and it's a dupe of Kayali Pistachio. I sprayed 2 by 11:30 am. And 10 hours later, I can still smell it on my elbow. And not faintly at that. It's such a feel good scent. I don't know how to explain fragrance notes but I'll tell you how I feel about the scent. It's a cookies and creamery "Gotta Have it Cup" coldstone ice-cream after a long trek. It's a hug from your parents when you're back from school holidays It's curled up while it's raining and watching your favourite 6 season series. It's being warm from being covered in a duvet in cold weather. It's cuddling and intimate moments with your partner—safe, warm, and unforgettable  It's listening to your favourite playlist at midnight - quiet, with peace in your thoughts  It's a sunday afternoon sleep after a long service It's a girl's night with your best girls, reconnecting and sharing gossip. It

On The Resident Series

My issue with this"the resident" series is the dialogue. The convos are really really juvenile. Maybe I'm nitpicky cos I was learning screenwriting before but the dialogues are subpar. There are always words, all the time. There are just certain things that we (the audience) should be able to glean from the actors' gestures, or leave it implied for us to get the context.  But they're literally filling every single scene with words. There is a saying we have in copywriting too - "Show not tell" and copywriting is mainly words oo. Not to talk about video production. "SHOW, NOT TELL." But they're telling us every single thing. Like see this scene, especially the one about fiancee. Not once have they shown us the disagreement. Not once. It's also doesn't help that the dialogues are weak, doesn't have the punch I suppose they're gunning for. Which doesn't now make me anticipate or day "one more episode" when it

On Power Rangers Franchise

Image
Lmao, I was also a power ranger girlie back then. How did I even get into it? So, I was on junior waec break and I'd gone to the mini market close to my house to look for a kdrama. They didn't have the particular ones I wanted. So I chose the India movie collections they had. Then for some reason, I believe Power Rangers Time Force was in one of those pirated collection. I can't remember. I do remember that I revised to give it a chance after I'd exhausted seeing other movies. Before I knew it, I was back to get others - SPD, Mystique Force, Jungle Fury, RPM, Operation Overdrive. Most of the ones I got were not complete. Jungle Fury and SPD have my favourite theme songs. Mystique force has the best power-ups in my opinion. However, SPD remains the best overall out of all of them. And it's not even a close competition.

On Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story

Image
These men have been in jail for 30 years, just because they killed their parents. Why I used "just" you may ask? It's obviously sexual abuse. Their father had been abusing them for years. He did not only abuse his kids, but even their cousins that came to stay with them. He started abusing the older one when he was 6 years old.  Hell, the Lyle, the elder brother even started losing his hair at 14 years old cos of stress. Like hair falling in large chunks And you know what the D.A that prosecuted them said, "that men cannot be raped because they didn't have the equipment." And during the trial, all the women in the jury called it a manslaughter while the men said it was murder. I'm telling you, I wouldn't be surprised if the men in those jury were abusers themselves. 30 years later, they're still on the prosecution without chances of parole. To add salt to injury, this new adaptation series now portrayed both brothers in homoeroticism, making it a

On shaming pornstars

Image
I'll never get men shaming women porn stars. As if they're not the demographic paying for porn. Abi anyone think it's straight women paying for these sites? First off, more men watch porn than women. In this statista study in France, 23% of French women watch porn. That's in contrast to 78% of French men admitting to watching porn.  Another article I read said it's 36% of visitors on Porn hub are women. And even in that lesser frequency, there are straight women and lesbians. Lesbians ain't watching no damn heterosexual porn, but straight women watch lesbian and gay porn.   Hell, according to Porn Hub statistics, women search for lesbian porn more than heterosexual porn. In 2019, women are 106% more likely to search for lesbian porn. And women were 168% likely to search for gay BDSM. It's just what it is. And that's cos straight porn is usually hardcore which caters to the male gaze while lesbian porn focuses on the woman's pleasure. Same statistic

On Parasites - Korea movie

I watched Parasites at the peak of my learning screenwriting in 2020. So, it was almost like a diamond in the rocks for someone learning the nuances of powerful storytelling. I can't even begin to explain how that movie changed my perception of life, class disparity, wealth creation, etc. Most especially, with idealistic and lofty goals, and now reality really is. It's a masterpiece in storytelling. Emphasis on "storytelling." It's no wonder it won 4 Oscar awards.  I even started watching it cos it won Oscars for the best Picture , Director, Screenplay, and International Feature Films. So I figured to see this Korean Comedy thriller movie that got all these Oscars. And by Jove, it was more than deserved.  I'll always recommend anyone to watch it. It's just a jarring movie. Hell, if you follow the scenes attentively, you'd feel like you were poured cold water in that last scene cut. And when you sit back to analyze the metaphors, sceneries and even con

On Kids learning misogyny

A few months ago, a woman said that she removed her son from his nursery school cos he was learning misogyny there. And men started frothing again on "wokeness". But kids learn from what they see. Here is an instance - Michaela grew up in a Sierra Leone orphanage. She was going back from school to the orphanage with her pregnant teacher. Now because there was a fight ongoing between clans, the rebel group with a small boy among them stopped the teacher and asked what's the gender in her womb. Then they proceeded to cut the pregnant woman open to see the baby in her womb. And the other small boy in the rebel family seeing the rebels cut the teacher, decided to copy the men too. He grabbed a matchet and stabbed the girl. As per, stabbing the one his size now. Link to full video - https://x.com/QueenRMade1/status/1834684514461007981?t=gnCXIcNfhRSDJHpAHTgSyg&s=19

On Taylor Swift hate

Image
I really don't get the Taylor Swift hate. It's just so forced. My introduction to her was in my jss3 with Love Story and You belong to me. And when I gained admission to UNN, and my roommate was playing Bart Baker's parody on Taylor Swift. So naturally, I loved the songs they were inspired by and listened to them a lot. I eventually watched her documentary as well. At this stage of my life, I'm not her demographic of yearning for love or bemoaning a lost relationship and stuffs like that. I've overgrown that stage. But I'll never say she is overrated. If anything, I still play those old songs. There is no way you'd become a dollars billionaire from music alone if your music doesn't speak to a large audience. Though, I'm not a fan, I like Taylor Swift. She is genuinely a cool celebrity, cheers others in public and doesn't cause trouble. It's just sexism that's causing this whole discourse. Smh

On Equal pay in sports

Image
Re this post  Again, when we talk about equal pay, we should never forget that capitalism is what propels it, especially in male dominated sports. There is no way the women in the left picture should be paid the same as the likes of LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, etc. The audience that bought merch, and tickets just weren't there. But this new generation of women are now pulling crowds as seen in the right picture. There are fanboys/fangirls defending and analysing the games of Catilyn Clark, Angel Reese and others. And I don't know the factor that propelled that audience - but that's what we should be gunning for in women's in male dominated sports (eg football). More of that audience to support them, buy the tickets and get the merch. That's the only way they can command higher pay.

On perfume dupes

Image
I got that Kaly perfume dupe whose original Kayali price is like 20x more. I sprayed this dupe perfume since 8am. I can still smell it faintly on my skin now. What you're paying for in designer and celebrity perfumes is name, marketing budget, and the executives + workers' salary. See how Rihanna is the new face of J'adore. You think she'll take anything less than $10 million dollars for that endorsement. And how will Dior recoup that money + make profits if not by hiking prices of the available products. Abi FBI discovered the other day that the Dior handbag they're selling for $2850 dollars actually cost $53 to produce. It's that status symbol that they're selling. Not that the quality is all that. Of course, some quality is still really far high up there. Niche houses like Frederick Malle and Nishane scents smell strong for days. But I'm just talking about the majority of the time. I'll still buy Frederick Portrait of a lady and Nishane Silent w
