Notions (Nollywood)

Please can anyone tell Nollywood, especially epic to just stop it eeh? Stop with this total adulteration of ndị Igbo culture and customs. The thing na-ajị ajị. Ọ na-ajị na mkpụrụ obi.

Aghọtarọ m etu mmadụ ga-esi na-ekiri film mgbe ọbụla, wee na-afụ the same thing. Same thing that is always distorted at all times.

I know it's entertainment you're doing, but not recycling bland and false stories and you project it as Igbo Cultural heritage.

First of all, can y'all just stop with the Igwe you people enthrone in all your films? The Igbo society of those days were predominantly egalitarian with no provision for a central king. Can you people depict that, eeh? At least if not for anything, to educate youngsters (since History is not taught in elementary and secondary schools) on the history of their ethnic nationality. 

While you're at it, can you portray the Igbo society then as a thriving one? I mean that at least, movies should depict the economic way of life of the people. The men and women who were farmers, traders and weavers. There should be movies where these are represented, not everytime the community is going for a hunt of a special relic on request of the gods.

Also, really really modify how you guys portray Chi ndị Igbo then. They were not static and they could be discarded when their influence were no longer visible, and not necessarily by Christian missionaries. Can you show us those stories too??

Ehe, before I forget, una should stop with the English in epic movies. Someone will be watching pre-colonial Igbo Nollywood and you'll be hearing oyibo, not only oyibo both British and American accent n'ime the movie. A friend said he watched movie where they are teaching English in the film and the actors were already speaking English with accent oo.

Don't tell me that it's for wider audience, that argument should not even be on your lips. First of all Korea people oo, Philippines oo, India dey act in their native language and not only their pre-colonial films nau. There's something called 'subtitle' remember??

Heck, even the language structure of American and British visibly changes when they are acting these their epic movies. You can't properly represent a culture if you continuously reproduce movies with the above themes.  

I legit puke cos of Nollywood Igbo Epic. Those false stories we watched are forever etched in my memories and I am always resentful whenever remember them (and the ones blatantly shown till this day)

Abeg, there's need to do better with those Igbo stories... Ọ dị very necessary!
