Notions (Religion and Women)

I did my presentation today, On one of the sensitive topics in the world, Nigeria to be precise. Nope, not  gender.

Religion! And Women!
Because I am a woman, I was very particular about the verses that subjugates women. On how we are not given as much authority as the male gender in the Church setting.

Now a friend whilst contributing made mention of how majority of the laws were directed towards the society of that time.

And I'm like, Yesss! It is true but why are those doctrines still targeted towards women of this present generation. Which was why I said,to get rid of those verses that oppress women Currently. If Slavery and Incest, and gazillion other laws are abomination these days, I don't know why the same is not directed towards the issue of the female sex.

Another pointed out why we don't talk about the roles of women via Rev. Sisters and I'm like, why are women not ordained to run they church. One was insisting that ordination does not equate to anything, that it is not a vital role.

This shook me to the core as I'm confused. Very! might I add. That the fact that a woman cannot be a Priest is not seen as important in church whereas currently in England, a woman is a bishop. Does this mean that the theological school that they are sent to is not anything. She actually told me that it's just for knowledge. I was 'kujad' and 'majad'. I can't even, can't even deal.
You see why I called it a sensitive topic. Cos religion has eaten deep into our sense of understanding that we can't think outside of that whuh we have been indoctrinated. That we perceive anything outside of what we are told as blasphemy. That we are afraid to ask questions, we fear that we might err.

I would have loved to say that indoctrination destroys our mode of thinking, but that will be imposing my views, imposing my beliefs on others. The funniest thing is that someone met me after my presentation and was saying why I said to remove those verses and I rightfully reminded him of the place of slavery and incest and the fact that those verses are not preached again.

We also have that consistency of tryna adjust the message of the Bible to what suits us at that point in time. A friend now came to me to tell me that those verses are figurative, they aren't meant literally. But in same Christianity, those verses are preached. We are told not to misinterpret the word of God, that it is law. Why don't we take the verses as literal, even when it's oppressive?

I will always say this, 'There's nothing a person cannot defend with the Bible" (Please keep your sensitivities aside, ike arguement adịrọ m) Same religion, different ideologies yet we claim to worship same God. Some will come with, "Holy Spirit, Nye nye nye to give understanding et.al"

Nke ahụ gbasara unu. I just said mine from experiences and observations. I have finished my presentation, no-one should come at me, it's not even debatable. I got my full marks and I have exams tomorrow so the girl go to read.
Bye bye nu
