A Chunk On Anything - Society and the Future

In recent times, what is evident in the world is a situation of melancholy. Although, melancholy can be said to be an emotion worth experiencing, sometimes the society is what induces the melancholic state in which a person is stuck with.

When defining what a society entails, one is left in turmoil as to how to go about overcoming the supposed notion of being under societal expectations. While a person defines the society as a community made up of individuals from different parts of the world, the truth is a little bit far-fetched from that.

Society influences humans almost every single time. It tends to be inconspicuous at times owing to the fact that some people can be rigid on their stand. However, the situation of the current society makes it nearly impossible to be isolated. The peak of society puts up its head in the form of social media. At this time and age, social media can be loosely translated to the society.

Someone said something about the direction in which the world is moving to. Although there is freedom of speech, society has made it such that one does not really have the freedom of speech. The reason being that thoughts and feelings can be contradicting or affecting another’s belief. That, in which one vehemently opposes might be what another strongly believes in. Owing to the numerous ideologies and divisions that are in the present world, the possibility of not offending anyone with criticisms is impossible. But going extreme and spreading outright hate will not be tolerated in the upcoming society.

Does that mean that everyone should keep mum to pressing issues and to not have an opinion on something? No! For how far humans has evolved over the millennia, it is too restrictive that humans go back to living a life in which their words are censored. Since humans do believe that the age of enlightenment has brought free speech and all, people declare their stand irrespective of who or what anyone would say.

However, with the pace in which the world is evolving, sooner or later, there may be practically no freedom to express opinions. That may not come through enforcement of laws, but rather through the Society, through backlash from people who upholds either ideologies. The punishment may not come from imprisonment but rather rejections and repercussions which may cost one in the public sphere.

This is where it comes back to the society. In as much as one tries not to be influenced by the society, there is need to keep heed to what angers the society, or what might make one come off being an extremist. Human emotions are fragile and same humans make up the society.

The above does not endorse people not having their free speech, it is just that people need to take note of what they say, because whether or not society will influence one, it definitely will. One just have to keep the level of influence at a level where it does not dictate whatever and everything one does. At the end of the day, being cautious and careful is the key.
