On Religious Cults
We always think we are smart. That we could never be under the manipulation of these men of God. It's that same condescension people give others in abusive marriages, 'why can't you just leave?'
So let me pose the question to you as a Christian. Why haven't you left the church? No be cos you are scared of hell??? If there was no hell fire, will you still be a Christian?
Do you fornicate without begging God for forgiveness that you have sinned? You can't right? Because you've been indoctrinated that if you die now after that orgasm and you are not a married person, straight to hell fire.
Now let's bring it back to the disciples of these man. These people were 16, 17 year old teens when they began the indoctrination. How were you when you were 16? Yes you? Did you have the emotional capacity you have now? Hell, you even have the internet now with feminists, and every other person telling you your worth that you are enough. These kids were enslaved in 2000s. We didn't even have phones then much less the internet.
They were forced to live in the synagogue. No interaction with the outside world. They are only allowed to sleep for 2 hours a day. Hell, there are cameras everywhere including the bathroom.
Now because you think you are smart, you will say, "why did they even go there in the first place?" The same way you go to church. Suppose your mom had breast cancer and died and there is a possibility of you getting it. And then you see a man of God heal many people. You proceed to go to the church so that God will give you healing. From there, they welcome new members and tell you to wait behind after church as usually happens in every other church. Then, they start following up with you to get closer to God. From there, slowly, surely, you get broken and you are more or less a slave to the church
I repeat as I said when I wrote about the Keep Sweet, Pray and Obey documentary, the only reason you are not a victim is that you were not in their shoes. Not that you are smart. Not that you can just leave. They target vulnerable people at that stage. People that have immediately dealt with loss or something similar. They are very intentional about that vulnerability to capture new preys.
So now, let me ask you again. How sane were you at 16, 17???? Do you really think you were mentally ready at 16 even in this internet age? Now think of the year 2000. They were under psychological chains. How on earth do you think someone under those chains can leave?
The only thing you can do for them is to have empathy. Not some sanctimoniousness of you possibly acting better. Cos believe you me, you wouldn't have.
Infact, by all definitions of it, Jesus Christ and his disciples were in a cult. Jesus literally said, "If anyone comes to me and does not hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be my disciple" (Luke 14:26). What's the difference between what he said and what TB Joshua told these people to leave their people and focus on him?
Jesus told the apostles to walk on water. That's to test how much he has indoctrinated them. It's like that cult leader, Charles Manson that told the people to tattoo X on their forehead to test their loyalty. Told them that no one has access to God except through him (John 14: 16). I can swear that I've heard 3 different cult leaders say exact same thing in various documentaries.
Now, for the magnanimity of Jesus Christ, we can't say who he was behind the scenes cos all the accounts we have of him, his apostles were writing glowing reviews with varying accounts. And we saw how he lost his temper with the sellers in the church. How is that different from how TB Joshua was flogging his people? This man made these people turn against each other and report to him. Looked at those he assaulted and asked them whether he was abusive. Of course they said NO.
And because the apostles really felt Jesus was persecuted and wrongfully killed, they continued the ministry. Guess which other cult leader is doing same, that Keep Sweet, Pray and obey pedophile. That man is in prison and his people still think that he is a martyr and this is one of his persecutions from God. Hell, we still have TB Joshua fanatics in comment section saying that they are lying against him. Christians on twitter are there saying that "let the dead rest. Don't fault the man of God."
Anyways, as the Richard none says, A religion is a cult which has become acceptable. We are all in different cults. This YouTuber in a psychedelic cult put it perfectly, "so what if I'm in a cult. It's a cult of love. Is there anything wrong with it?"
No, nothing is wrong with being in a cult. You are just lucky you found yourself not in an abusive one. Count yourself lucky that you are in a cult that is open, and is now perceived as religion
