Notions (The Undesirable as being Normal)
Nigeria coerces you accept the undesirable, makes you shocked when you have the opportunity to enjoy amenities which in an ideal society, is supposed to be normal.
At my current place of residence, we have an almost patterned mode of having electricity
It comes in the morning by 6 o'clock in the morning till 8 or 9 o'clock
Again by 12 pm to 4 pm
Then, 9pm to 1 am
So yesterday's afternoon, it was nearing 4:30 and they had not taken light.
Hmm, I figured they just want to meghelụ anyị. Maybe the official in charge is sleeping or something, or the season of social distancing is contributing to their benevolence
You see that word, "benevolence"
The sheer fact that I was thinking in this manner shows how much we've taken a whole lot of bullshit, that it feels like a gift to still have NEPA than that which had become an unwritten norm in the area
Meanwhile, 5 o'clock, light still dey...
Haa! At this point, I kuku goan plug in my phone oo. Incase this is merely a warning before they take the light for a long time.
It's not the first they're trying such, anyways
They later took the light by 6:30pm and I then calmed down, silently wishing that they still keep to their schedule later in the night
Fortunately for us, they did alright
Even today that's Sunday, it's still kicking as usual
Lemme keep hoping they don't try to take back that extra someday
It's an affliction though, one that has eaten deep into the lives of an average Nigerian.
Such distasteful wretchedness that the virtue of being a Nigerian have altered the psyche of the citizens.
I read a story sometime ago, of a Nigerian who relocated abroad. It took him months to get over the incessant urge to iron the previous day because in his subconscious, he had the notion that there is a possibility of having no light the next day, as is the case of Nigeria.
Infact, some people iron clothes they'd wear for the whole week and keep, in case of the NEPA people acting up.
Even if we resolve this issue eeh, it's going to take a long time to reshape the mental processing of people regarding this particular issue.
It's a mess nnor
A comical plight that we're in
