On The Menendez Brothers
This is a clip from the real murder trial in 1993.
Their father was so horrible that the only time he was nice to them was when he was raping them. So Lyle, the elder brother (the one in this video) molested his own brother too as a child. Cos he thought that was the way you show love to your family.
In the testimony of the younger one, he mentioned being penetrated with an object. And the description he explained makes me think it was a dildo. So, at the time of the trial, he didn't even know the name. And why will they be lying or planning to kill the parents for money? They are quite literally the Heirs. I read somewhere that their monthly allowance as of them was around $6000. That's huge even in 2024. The older one was already in Princeton University, an Ivy League.
And their mother was aware. That woman knew all the while that the younger one was abused from 6 years to 18 years. And she stood by. A cousin even said this Lyle demonstrated to her what the father used to do on the night she came for a sleepover. She called the mother and told her and that woman dragged the boy and told her that it's lies. So she didn't think much about it until the murder happened. More so, the father eventually assaulted other cousins that came to their house.
Personally, I'm satisfied that they killed them too. 15 shots for either and mostly on their brains. Police reports show that the brain of the father was dripping from the gun shots. During the trial, their defense was that it's not premeditated but rather an argument with the parent that night ensued the slaughter. I don't really believe that 100%, but it's a better defence. And even if it was premeditated, I'm 💯 in support of it.
In the documentary, Erik, the younger one was saying people shouldn't diminish the crimes. Even in prison, they're still taking responsibility for everything. No self righteousness (even though they were very much victims), and each individually feeling like he failed the brother.
They most likely wouldn't have gotten the murder in the first degree if they were trialed in 2024. Worthy to note that the first trial, all the women voted on self-defence manslaughter while men said it's flat out murder. It resulted in a mistrial. Hell, even the prosecutor said they couldn't find a single person to say a good thing about their father - apart from his secretary.
Second trial, the judge removed all instance of the sexual abuse evidence (which included over 50 witnesses). And since the thrust of their defence lies in that abuse, the jury didn't have any other thing to go on apart from the guilty verdict.
Yes, they murdered people. Yes, they shouldn't have taken the law into their hands. But the severity of the abuse done against them deserves clemency from the law. They have served enough time for their actions. They should be released.
