On Interest in football and Ronaldinho

Image
When I was younger, I used to watch football with my brother and sisters. But my interest increasingly waned as I got older. My brother used to ask me why I am no more interested in watching games and for the longest time, I didn't know the right answer.  Until I started seeing some Ronaldinho's clips recently. I now know precisely why my interest waned. There was an art to football back then. It was all about how great you can dribble your opponent, play with the ball and Dinho was a god in that domain. He made football a beautiful beautiful game to watch so much so that even if the match ends with 0-0, it was just a great experience to have sat through. Now it's all about the stats. How many goals scored. Who won X and Y. Ronaldo vs Messi comparison. Plus the ever changing constraints they keep adding to the game. Love this video compilation attached. I remember practicing that right, left right again dribbling in the 30% mark. Not sure I'd get back to being a fan but...

On 30kg Chrome Dumbbell Sets

Image
Look what arrived and it's so pretty in silver. The way the dispatch dropped it for me on the floor outside😭😭 But I did carry it up stairs without heaving so yay for good cardiovascular health.  When I say the fear of osteoporosis got me into strength training, I mean that. Being helpless appalls me, so the sheer thought that my already weakened knees would get worse had me scampering for a solution. As long as I'm healthy, I refuse to allow this body not to be at its optimal state. In all, I'm really grateful to Caroline Girvan for making hypertrophy training effective and not dreadful. It's not all roses and sunshine but some days are definitely better than the others. Let's get the home workout pushing. 50kg set next? Maybe. Let's see how long we go before this becomes my normal. Meanwhile my lil gym corner has slowly come together over the course of 18 months

On Trust me: The False Prophet

Image
I had written about Keep Sweet, Pray and Obey documentary about 3 years ago but somewhere in the back of my mind, I always wondered what happened to the community when their head honcho (Warren Jeffs) was still manipulating from jail by sending these edicts.  Well, Netflix heard my inner thoughts because this new documentary, (Trust me: The False Prophet) is kind of a follow up. So because Warren Jeffs wasn't getting any action in prison, dude legit banned his followers from procreating. Yes, even married folks. This was someone who had earlier dictated that every year, there should be a new child in each family.  And no surprises, another man who thinks himself God assistant took on the community to continue the nuisance. Why? Oh because he couldn't keep it in his pants with the ridiculous edicts. So he branched off his new group called Samuelite. And I'm trying, really trying hard to have empathy for the older adults in the room but it's hard cos wow, this brain? T...

On the Church as Business Venture

Image
Ever since I started seeing the church primarily as a business venture, I stopped wasting my breath postulating about tithing and the role of the church in humanitarianism.  I mean, let's observe Pastor Jerry objectively. All that shouting and screaming praying sessions are amazing workout sessions. And they're HIIT sessions not even LISS. I estimate nothing less than 400 calories being expended per session. If only I can stand all the screaming, I'd probably even add to my fitness routine on days where I am not able to do road walk. His ministry being primarily digital from onset? Brilliant strategy. The community he's built, the devotion... I can't help but admire the business venture. That YouTube money must be very very long and I can't help but respect the hustle. Apart from oil and gas, traditional banks, and fintechs, I'm not sure there are booming sectors like the church in Nigeria.  And they're providing a service, let's be objective, they...

On Divine Grace and Forgiveness

Image
I wrote something similar about pedophilic Jeffery Dahmer that not only abused and killed young boys, he ate them. Like sliced them like beef and kept in his fridge. And when he was eventually imprisoned, he repented, got baptized by a priest and from many indications, was having his Bible sessions daily with the priest and changing his ways??. And I just can't wrap my head around it. Sure, Jesus told the other thief, "today you'd be with me in paradise" and all of that but genuinely, it doesn't fucking make sense that just repenting absolves people of punishment.  When I was younger, I'd be spitting fire and brimstone arguing against the Catholicism belief in the purgatory but as an adult, that is more logical to me than someone lying just before demise would immediately castigate them to hell. While the worst of the human demons could repent and everything is then a clean slate. So if someone like fucking Jeffery Dahmer is going to heaven, then miss me wi...

On Artemis II mission

Image
Consider the enormity of earth from this Artemis II exploration. And the tininess of this dot from the above image. This universe is incomprehensible and I can't even begin to wrap my head over the vastness and our mere existence on earth. I saw a comment on Reddit about the Farthest documentary that a lady said that after the film, she went to flick a speck of dust from the canvas before realising that's our entire earth in an image. You can't help and wonder how minuscule, just infinitesimally small we are. Meanwhile, the ocean is about 70% of the earth's surface. Humans have barely tranversed 5% of the ocean and from what I saw online, about 80% remain unmapped. On the atheists on Reddit... I would describe them as insufferable more of... I mean I would wager the astronauts should even be more religious. Cos being out of this space makes the marvel of all that we are more incredulous. I can't even imagine seeing earth and not shudder on the magnitude of the unive...

On Caroline Girvan's Influence

Image
Left: My trainer’s legs who has 20 years of workout experience. Right: My legs after following her programmes for 9 months now. I'm seeing my thighs definition (that's if WhatsApp haven't butchered the image quality). But my thighs were previously hanging/droopy thighs from excess adipose tissue. Now they're  firm and this is just from working out from home.  Caroline Girvan is the GOAT. I won't stop recommending her, she's the real deal. If you've been thinking of strength training and you can't afford the gym yet, start with Grow with Jo and progress to Caroline.  I'm very satisfied with my results with my measly 3kg pair and 6kg pair dumbbells. And I will keep progressively overloading the dumbbells when I get the financial capacity to do so.  Honestly, she is the only thing I kept consistent this March cos between multiple application rejections, being ill with malaria and house hunting, March didn't quite go well for me. But it's well. W...

On Golden Kiss by Beguile by Ọma

Image
It took 5 years but here we are. 5 years for Seduction to have not just a competition but get itself knocked out of my being my favourite perfume. I got the new release by Beguile by Ọma, Golden Kiss. I wasn't really tempted to buy it first cos of the cost and I was looking at being financially prudent. But luckily I got some monetary gifts during my birthday and having come out of a malaria ailment and getting a few client gigs, I figured I should splurge on something. And the only thing I really had interest in getting is it. It's currently my most perfume spend yet but totally worth it.  How do I describe the scent profile? Literally, it's a sweet floral scent. But to evoke the emotions, it smells luxurious. Like you see those old money aesthetics and being put together. Like someone aptly described it, "it smells like the woman I want to be." That's the vibe it gives. The notes are giving vintage perfume vibes but not in that granny (coughs in Coco Channel...

On What is Success for me in 2026?

I think I grew up too fast. I don't know, I suppose I reached a level of maturity in terms of intellect early cos it's surreal at 21, this was my version of success. I ended up winning best writing of the year for the same article I was referring to. Remember that thing I mentioned about envy being a fuel for me? I'm telling you, you need to start seeing envy as a fuel. I don't believe in it being sin and all of that bullshit. It's downright motivation for me. I had more audacity at 20 and 21 years old than I did at 24 and 25. Well, thank God for previous writings cos I go back to it and I get myself right back. I have mentioned I can't be more satisfied than I am daily. Nothing external can make me happier than I normally am. It's a state of being thanks to my younger self for reading Marcus Aurelius That's not to say I don't feel bad some days. The way I was venting to Ada yesterday, you'd have thought that woe is me and all of that. But that...

On Certifications in IT

I used to wonder why people put certificates like PMP, CASP, SSCP, CISSP, CISM to their LinkedIn names. Until I went and took the most basic IT certification (CC). Not only was that one of the trickiest exams I've taken, it's supposed to be the most basic in this field.  The issue is not just the ambiguousness of the test. Not only that, just that the exam is adaptive in the sense that the questions keep getting trickier the more correct answer you give. So you can't change your previous responses. Also, also... a question can have more than one right answer but it wants you to select the one that's most correct for that specific question. Talk about mind games. For this one specifically, I genuinely wasn't confident that I'd scale through up until I got my print out. And this is meant to be the basic exam. Not to talk of the behemoth that is CISSP and the likes. No wonder people do Hallelujah challenge for those kind of exams. It does take critical thinking to ...

On God

Image
Things you see and of course, no other choice than to believe there is an engineer (God) that orchestrated it. It can't have been by chance. It's not a matter of belief. There has to have been a being that crafted this so intricately that it exists as such... Why I never tilted to atheism. Cos this universe is so infinite that it doesn't even make sense how we exist. Like my brain doesn't comprehend the vastness of this world. So why doesn't God stop all this inhumanity going on. Well that's cos God has been here for eons.  What concern supernatural being and what we plebians are doing. If we want to destroy shit up, let's continue on that downward trajectory. When shit goes to naught, God will create new beings. Maybe ours are a bad experiment and he's just observing us so when we eventually blow up this universe, then some parts of the brain that causes us to be so terrible as humans will be removed. So I suppose I'm more apathetic towards religion...

Happy Birthday

Image
My friends do know I have a love-hate relationship with my birthdays, it's usually filled with dampened spirit. But today, I kept waiting for the despondency to come, it didn't. I won't claim I've had the financial success like I craved, but despite the multitude of rejections I've faced, a good number of things have been going in the right direction for me. I finally have a semblance of career clarity that I have been missing. For the majority of the 3rd quarter of last year, I've been telling my friends, there is something I'm missing. There is something I'm missing. And it's moreso clarity which I think I've conquered to an extent. I no longer feel dread as the human anniversary numbers add up. Clarity of thoughts. Clarity of Purpose. We all need that. Also, pressure made me want to attain that clarity. I called it my quarter life crisis, cos my family and friends have this expectations of my success and I have to live up to it. I'll refer...

On Caroline Girvan's Epic Heat Program

Image
Just completed the Epic Heat program which was so intense. A tear dropped outta my eye when I saw the confetti after the EMOM workout ended. I feel incredibly proud of myself. Even though I didn't finish day 48 because the push-ups were incredibly hard on me and I half-assed, I figured I'd better replace it with pilates so I don't do mediocre moves. Despite that, these past 10 weeks (plus a deload week I took after week-5) has been challenging and I was able prove to myself that I can commit to a programme and to do hard things. Next on the list is the deload week, after which I dive into a series of shorter workouts spread for 4-5 weeks before embarking on another long programme. Caroline changed my life. I can't even. Like I can't even begin to explain. Went to the market the other day and my customer was like, "you look lean and fit." I was just preening cos around early 2025, the same person had told me, you've added weight. See, I know we're n...

On Your Info Tool

Image
Yo, you guys should check this out. Got most of my details correct down to my battery and I didn't even sign in or give it anything. See this IP address thing I'm pleasantly surprised that it's showing me as privacy conscious. Ever since I started dabbling into cybersecurity and OSINT, I'm more careful now. Then it's a wonder e no see me as developer considering the many versions of my development apps I have on my phone but I'd count that a win I suppose. At least it knows I'm broke and frugal as hell. Omg, we're cooked. I do know there isn't privacy online but this one is a discovery. Here is the link - https://yourinfo.hsingh.app/

On 4c Hair

Image
This is about hair. About 4c hair specifically and if you know anything about this hair texture, it's a whole politics all by itself. So personally, I've never really cared about my hair, natural hair to be specific. I'd like to ascribe that indifference to having my hair barbed when I was still in nursery school. So you could say I've had my hair on low cut much longer than I have a full head of hair.   I always resort to cutting the hair when I feel like the maintenance is too much. As earlier mentioned, I never quite cared for having hair. In any case, that was my modus operandi until I began picking on my hair whenever it grew to a knot-able afro. This constant manipulation usually occurs when I'm stressed, bored or just not busy. I knew I had to change or start making hair again when I woke up after a particularly stressful previous day and the hair on my bed was just a lot. I literally went down to a hair dresser that morning to see if my hair could make corn...

On Tunnel Visions

Intellectual. That's what I was called. Until I found tech and now I'm nothing more than a worker-bee. It was supposed to be my gateway to wealth but little did I know I would lose my articulation in the pursuit of the industry. I'll admit it's nobody's fault but mine. When I think of technological tools, it's always about optimization. Are the pages responsive? Are user interactions intuitive enough? But ironically, I did not adapt same principles to myself. In a bid for a career chase, I've become too rigid in my approach, with a single vision focused on development. I should have the liberty to be able to express my thoughts, while still spending 6 hours on vscode meeting a Yearly Wrapped goal. I should...

On P.Diddy: The Reckoning

Now considering how I'd been following Diddy's news from the first day Cassie asked for that money, I'm supposed to be done with this documentary by now. But it's been taking me quite some time to watch it cos I start it, become agitated and pause it godu. I've watched two commentaries on it (Josh Johnson and Jessie Woo) on YouTube so I do know the gist of it.  What I'll say is that this dude is literally a spawn of the devil. Shit, it's an affront cos dare I say the devil is more benevolent than he was. Hell, I'd even prefer a deal with the devil himself than make one with Diddy. Yes, that's how horrible he is. Someone so egotistical you hired a cameraman right after you were sued to record you. And in the same fucking recording you're making plans of propaganda and using all means necessary to threaten people.  See this money thing, it's a drug for real. Cos genuinely, he did believe nothing would be done to him which really was true for de...

On People Doing Things

People are really just doing things and I'm even more inspired. This guy, Damian Hardung is studying to be a medical doctor. And he is also an actor (starred in Maxton Hall as the lead character). Reminds me of Yari Shahidi that was giving us back to back in Blackish and Grownish series while attending Harvard University. Or Megan thee stallion releasing albums and going on tours but still getting her degree. You really can just do things, especially if you're in an enabling country.  I'm even more motivated to push myself cos you really can do things if you put your mind to it

On Losing Weight (6)

Image
If you had told me I'd be looking forward to a 10 week workout programme in January 2025, I'd have called you a bloody liar. But here I am. Caroline has turned me into someone I can't recognize (in a good way). I hit my goal weight then finished the 6 week Iron Series ending of October and I was ecstatic. My body was in the best shape it'd ever been. Afterwards, did her 1 week HIIT series (which was bloody cos tell me why had 40 variations of Burpees on the first day). Then followed it up with 2 weeks Beastmode series. After which I had to take a deload week of just yoga and mobility exercises. Unfortunately, at the same time, my diet went to shit because my siblings came back and I was eating junk like there was no tomorrow. Anyways, my weeks of decadence is over so I'm back to my routine with a new series (Epic Heat by Caroline Girvan). This time, it's 10 weeks long. So hoping to be done by my birthday in February. Keeping fingers crossed🤞🏼

On Learning

Image
Hmmmm. I do agree learning is uncomfortable cos you're training the brain muscle. But I'd like to see it as working out. If you're a beginner, you don't just straight to lifting heavy cos you may feel discouraged. Best way would be to start with simple workouts like, get to moving your body. Then as you progress, you add on challenges. I dislike the whole "you must suffer before you learn." It's similar to those who claim you only learn by reading books. Yeah, whilst reading, you engage different muscle groups and force the concentration to the written words. But some people just thrive the media format. Same way some would prefer gamified methodologies to imbibe knowledge. The whole elitism about learning is so trite.
