Screenwriting Excerpt 4

Image
You know what they say about writers, "don't have a conversation in front of them, they'd use you in their next story. This excerpt is inspired by my visit to the bank. The girl that made the blunder was not like this per se, but what's writing and creativity without conjuring scenarios and making them more elaborate? So I tweaked the scene to be more than what I'd experienced. But for real though, these bankers have patience (especially their marketers and customer care) cos I don't think I have the capacity to endure with certain people and be polite while at their duty. I guess that's why they are paid, innit? Lol...

Film Review - Love is War

Image
If there's a category that Nollywood gets perfectly, it's Political movies - no caps. I'd hate to draw comparisons between "Love is war" and "If I am President." Both are dear to my heart. The latter gets to me because of the storyline (the notion that the youths can be something and the dialogue - it was superb. Every word is a punchline in that movie). But the former projects womanhood in the political sphere including the derision targeted towards the woman. Reminds me of 'Love Does Not Win Elections,' the autobiography by Ayisha Osori The late night meetings, the God-fatherism and the subservience to them especially from the women, et.al. I couldn't help but notice the "loving wife card" that the female candidate exhibited to endear herself and score points from the populace when she said, "Help me free my husband from WDP." The husband approached a totally professional and straight to the point counteract

Screenwriting Excerpt 3

Exploring the dynamics of the live-in helps that are in many families in this part of the world. In most cases, there is no love lost between the mistress and the help. Only a few are ever close enough, and even at that there exists a subservience in the interactions.  So I shed a little bit of such relationship in the excerpts.

Notions (God - Science)

Science is the God we have on Earth. No caps Who would have believed this was possible? A baby removed from the womb before being fully mature and put back to complete the 9 month cycle. It always seems impossible till science tells ya, "Stop right there! Verily verily, I can do this!"  Lol But this makes me optimistic. Very optimistic in the future on this pregnancy cycle of a thing. It means that a foetus could possibly be brought out just before the gestation time elapsed and wouldn't be in danger. Once, people didn't know that CS could be an option, babies were always born the natural away regardless of whatever risk it poses for the child. Now, CS have so much progressed that they've made the gash not to be that visible as it was. Thank God! Which is why I am hoping still that science would discover a means to shorten pregnancy terms. Maybe 3-5 months of gestation, then the other months will be spent at incubator or something. Pregnancy comes with its risks a

Screenwriting Excerpt 2

This scene has all shades of Nigerianness in it. I intended to make do with the gradual rise of deception by people to the citizenry. And because most are desperate to get anything during this lockdown and economic crisis, they fall prey. It was inspired by a group of people I met on the road and a message I got to register that a group was giving out money (and they requested for BVN) and I figured to just write an excerpt.  No go and fall prey oo. Shine your eyes. #scriptwriting #screenwriting #writing #filmmaking #writersofinstagram #screenwriter #screenplay #Nollywood #NeoNollywood #NollywoodScripts #Nollywoodfilmmakers #writinglife #writingcommunity

Screenplay Tip: Bola Aduwo

Image
Coming straight from Nollywood! Honestly, I am a critic of Nollywood... I do feel like the stories are bland, specifically Nollywood African Magic. There's no spice. But as is in the picture, if you are so critical of it, when don't you change it? Get into the Industry and tell the stories that is deserving and boy, is that what I am honing my skills for. There are a lot of stories to be told and sitting back and pointing fingers ain't going to change anything. So, enter the damn industry and make the changes you perceive is better! Capiche...

Screenwriting Tip: Shonda Rhimes

Image
Shonda Rhimes is an Amazon in the film industry with her popular works, Grey Anatomy, How to get away with murder, and so on. On Researching, I'd like to think that research does not only border around the particular script/theme you want to work on. For aspiring screenwriters (like I am), it starts with researching about scripts which includes reading scripts written by other screenwriters.  I have more of Hollywood scripts and have only accessed Nollywood online. I am ecstatic that I am getting the hang over the screenplays (it comes easy to me, dare I say) but one never stops learning. Thus the researching, it continues. It's a never ending journey if one intends to be a master and by Jove, I do love the idea of that. Like Shona Rhimes said, "Read all the books" and dare I add "Read all the scripts while at it."

Screenwriting excerpt 1

Well🤓🤓 This is a proposed conversation between a girl who had a near sexual assault encounter with a therapist she had gone to see. Now, I am not saying that Naija psychologists are this way, nah.. it's just for this particular doctor. And the reason I depicted her as such is because, from the erudite, to the professionals, down to the average Nigerian, some people still have that notion of immediately seeking for specific questions when encounters like this happened.  I wanted to highlight the challenges in the Nigerian society, especially from people who should be trusted. Maybe I'll do another scene with either ministers or parents, cos really these kind of discussions need to be held. And I made the girl to be opinionated because, the new generation women are tired of the same mundane questions. It's blaisé to every girl and we are plain tired of hearing same excuses, period. I would really love to re-enact this scene on

Notions (Malcolm X)

Image
I was reading a tweet whereby the poster (a black)said that once, they were in class and were being taught slavery and all of the segregation of the black people, a white dude stood up and made a move to leave the class, when asked why, he said that part didn't pertain to him.  Wow! Just Wow! Oh my God! I imagined walking off one day in class during a "Britain and France Industrial Growth History" and I'd say, "Well, Britain ain't my racial history so I am not doing this course." Buahahahahhahahahahahaha Buahahahahhahahahahahaha For this crazy ass country, in this school system???? Buahahahahhahahahahahaha I just finished listening to Malcolm X's (The Ballot and the Bullet), (my new hero btw) and I am wondering, "How ever am I studying History and I've never seen Malcolm X in a course outline?" That man's philosophy should be a lone course all by itself. I sit back, read Aristotle, Plato, Thomas Aquinas and Augustine of

Notions (An Ode to my Brother)

Image
First off, I am jubilating that I have repaired my laptop, by myself. Took a bit intensive browsing from Google to YouTube and I got it right. Of course, my brother holds the accolades for that. He more or less made us marry Google as young as 10 years old. See eh, if I can raise a child. A boy child like my brother, then I have made it in life, periodttt. This ain't no child's play, I've simply made it. What I am, my journey and my values, I owe implicitly to Him and his upbringing of us. Responsibility, Integrity, Meticulousness, Uprightness most of the virtues y'all perceive is Peculiar to Chinenye, I learnt from him I remember once then, when we were having a discussion. I was probably 12 or 13 and I commented about smoking and if he did that. He looked at me quite dumbfounded that I even asked the silly question and he said, "anything I don't do in this house, best believe that I won't do it anywhere else." And by God, y'all don

Notions (Fuck Rape)

A reminder for my ladies Anytime you're voraciously condemning rape and anyone tried to DM you to say, "This one you're talking like this. Have you been raped?" Tell the person, "FUCK YOU" Fuck the bastard to hell and let him remain in the shit hole forever Cos you know what it does? It puts you on the defensive. Suddenly, you're trying to dissociate yourself with the victims of rape, cos they are still stigmatized by the society and you don't want to be a victim. So fuck the person! He should rot in whatever hellhole he crawled out from. And you absolutely don't need to tell any son of Baal that "Nooo, I was not raped but still, Rape is evil." Fuck that! Fuck them naysayers and fuck the correctness.  Resist the urge to Shalaye and RAVE ON with as much gusto that you can muster! #FuckingStopRape #EndTheFuckingStigma
